Grades FAQ
What happens to my grade once I’ve been reported for an academic integrity violation?
After you are reported for an academic integrity violation, a hold will be placed on your grade until the case is resolved. It will appear blank on your transcript.
Can I change my grading option once I have been reported for an academic integrity violation?
No, once you have been reported, you cannot alter your grading option or withdraw from the course.
When will I receive my grade?
You will receive your grade once the case has been resolved (i.e., you have either accepted responsibility, been held responsible or not responsible, or the allegation has been withdrawn). Once you have received your formal resolution notification, the AIO will notify Academic Records to clear the hold on your grade, and then notify your instructor that the grade can be entered (this usually takes 1-3 business days) . Your instructor then will normally submit the grade within 10 business days.
It’s been over three weeks since my case was resolved but I still don’t have my grade, what should I do?
If you received your resolution letter more than 3 weeks ago and your grade is still missing, email us at aio@ucsd.edu to let us know. We will reach out to the instructor directly.
The missing grade is preventing me from graduating, what should I do?
If it has been more than 3 weeks since your case was resolved, please email us at aio@ucsd.edu and we will contact your instructor.
I was told that my grade won’t be entered until I finish my AI Training. Is that true?
No, that is not true. Your grade can be entered after the case is resolved (i.e., you have either accepted responsibility, been held responsible or not responsible, or the allegation has been withdrawn) and you normally should see it within 3 weeks after you receive your resolution letter. If you don’t see it, you can email aio@ucsd.edu.
What if I think the grade I received is unfair?
You can submit an academic sanction appeal when you believe the grade you received was for reasons OTHER than the academic integrity violation (e.g., discrimination). To do this, you must follow the regular grade appeal process. This process is not managed by the AIO and therefore, we cannot help you with this process.
The class syllabus says I am going to fail the course because of my violation, can you talk to the Instructor / is there anything I can do to change their mind?
According to the UC San Diego Academic Integrity Policy, a course instructor has full discretion over the grade in the class and how you will be academically sanctioned for academic misconduct. The AIO has no authority or influence over the academic sanction.
What if the class in which I received my AI violation is a prerequisite? Can I take the next class in the series while waiting for my grade?
The decision to allow you to continue to the next course is made by the academic department on a case-by-case basis. We recommend using the VAC system to contact the Academic Advisor in the department of the course in question (e.g., PHYS 1B, contact Physics).
